Yes We Can

So, Barack Obama took the presidency in the end. The campaign was peerlessly conducted, combining traditional grass roots canvassing with the creation of a social networking platform that may become the text-book example of the media going forward. This was combined with a strategy that couldn't fail to work: identify areas of potential vote conversion, and mobilise any potential voters accordingly.

Here's the link to the site:

And here's an interesting article from Techcrunch about Obama's victor's speech and how the YouTube clip has become the most virulent in history.

The Race For The US Presidency

Social Networking's power is pretty pervasive at the moment; responsible for bouts of public disorder, huge public events, flashmobs, and hordes of party gatecrashers wreaking havoc as kids publicise their house parties on Facebook and Myspace.

Such powerful forces, though, can be harnessed to great effect by those with knowledge. Witness the US presidential election. Barack Obama's campaign to take the democratic nomination is attributed to his knowledge of grass-roots campaigning, which was ultimately encapsulated in the creation of Obama's superlative campaign website, built as a social networking portal. Read more about it in this excellent essay from the London Review Of Books:

OBAMA VS CLINTON - A RETROSPECTIVE By Eliot Weinberger

Meanwhile, John McCain quietly does his thing, attacking Obama with a combination of scaremongering ads and blog coverage, which is eating away at the feel-good campaign of the democratic nominee. A good summary of how they stand right now is in the following TechCrunch article:

OBAMA VS MCCAIN - TECHCRUNCH

And John McCain gets in on the game with his new Social Networking platform:

World TV create embeddable player

Our friends at World TV have allowed us access to their beta version embeddable player.

This means we can now create fully embeddable personalised TV channels. Once they've developed the widgets for the social networking spaces, we anticipate the player's use increasing exponentially.

Here's an example of the player in action using our Alphabeat's A-Z of Wonky Pop channel:

Facebook Hegemony Rolls On!

Facebook's expansion seems all encompassing given the stats; but many critics ask what the visitor numbers really mean, which is a fair point.

Here's the link to the TechCrunch article:

Facebook Is Not Only The World’s Largest Social Network, It Is Also The Fastest Growing

Frankmusik

We've created new social networking spaces for Island Records artist Frankmusik.

He's already got a lovely Myspace page:

Frankmusik MySpace

On Facebook, a group where fans can interact and we can communicate directly with them.

Frankmusik Facebook Group

An an "official" fan page, where we can host official content, music, etc.

Frankmusik Facebook Page

Given the artists' music and style, we just had to create a Bebo space too.
